Exercise

Exercise can be incredibly beneficial for people living with multiple sclerosis. It can help improve strength, balance, and overall mobility. Regular exercise can also help manage typical MS symptoms, such as fatigue and spasms.

Our equipment includes standing frames and tilt tables which are extremely popular with members who are wheelchair users.  Assisted standing helps with the digestive and circulatory systems.

All our classes are run by qualified professionals.  Anyone joining our centre is required to be assessed by one of our physiotherapists to ascertain their mobility before joining a class.

Gym classes

We run two classes every Tuesday and Thursday morning in our physio suite.  These include circuit work, movement, balance and are primarily aimed at our ambulant members.

Members are also able to have one-to-one support from our physios using any of the equipment, including standing frames and tilt tables.

Bike room

We have a range of static motorised bikes where our members, either ambulant or in wheelchairs, can exercise individually or in groups.  This is an ideal exercise helping with spasms and improving blood circulation in the legs

In 2023 our members raised £1,000 completing a virtual bike challenge around the North Coast of Scotland.  The money raised is being put towards a new bike.

Yoga

We run three yoga sessions each week. These are led by Jackie, a qualified yoga instructor, and are suitable for both ambulant and wheelchair members.

The focus of these sessions include deeper breathing and arm and leg stretches.  This can help with posture and flexibility.

Tai chi

We have recently commenced tai chi sessions on a Thursday.  These are also suitable for ambulant and wheelchair members.  Our volunteers and family members are welcome to participate.

Weather permitting, the tai chi sessions are held outdoors.
